Happy New Year Everyone! It’s been quite the year…
First and foremost, Siya and I want to THANK YOU SO MUCH for joining us on our adventures this year. Thank you for liking and commenting on all of our photos, videos and articles. Hearing your feedback and getting your support really means the world to us.
2015 has been one of the most challenging years for me, but also one of the most beneficial. It’s been a year of transition. I’ve learned a lot about the power of the mind, body and importance of balance. Many professional things happened this year for me. I can say with confidence that I’m getting a comfortable footing on my career path with Hopscotch the Globe and myself as a brand along with all of the intricate details that come along with it. I also feel more lucky than ever to have the opportunity to travel this world, share my experiences with you and inspire you to get out and explore. This is a HUGE part of why I love to do what I do. I want to inspire and encourage those curious about travel to go out there and do it! In my opinion, it’s the best gift you can give yourself.
Travel is transformational. Every trip helps me realize this even more. Travel also gives us the opportunity to learn and understand different cultures and beliefs which is essential in making this world a better place for all. We have seen a lot of tragedy this past year, but we have also seen humans stand together to fight for world peace and equality. It’s important to remember that no matter how awful some people may be, most people are good. The more you travel, the more you will understand this.
This year, I returned to some places I’ve visited in the past and got to know some new countries as well. Some trips I took alone and others with friends and family. Siya and I also made a point at the beginning of 2015 to explore more of Canada throughout the year. I think we did a pretty good job at making that happen. While there were many unforgettable moments this year, some of my top highlights include:
Taking my mom on a surprise trip to NYC. She has been wanting to go for year and we had an amazing mother-daughter trip.
Going on a cross Canada media tour with Transat Holidays to talk about our trip to Panama and Hopscotch the Globe in general.
Bungee jumping in Whistler, British Columbia.
Went to two Machel Montano concerts in Trinidad.
Hit 50,000 subscribers on YouTube.
Guest Starred on a new travel show airing on OUT TV this March.
Watched the episode of Angry Planet Season 4 I guest starred in on television.
Experienced the best musical performances of my life at Electric Forest Festival with great friends. Skrillex rocked my world!
Showcased the Newfoundland video Siya and I created in front of hundreds of people at Buffer Festival.
Was a featured creator and spoke on 3 panels at Buffer Festival.
Filmed a webisode with Calgary Tourism.
Spent a week sleeping in a van in Los Angeles.
Watched our two best friends get married and three other best friends have babies.
Road Tripped across Newfoundland for my birthday week.
Ran my first race ever. 10K in Jamaica baby…with bronchitis!
So many other wonderful things happened this year, but one thing that I definitely want more of for 2016 is…travel! Siya and I travelled quite a bit last year, but in 2016 we are stepping up our game and can’t wait to take you with us. We have some pretty epic adventures planned already and more that will spontaneously come up (random last minute trips are my favourite). I hope you are ready for some crazy adventures with us. Grab those passports and let’s do this! 2016 is going to be the most incredible year for all of us…I can feel it and I hope you do too!
Here’s to an unforgettable 2016! Cheers!!!
Where is your first trip to in 2016? When?
