I agree with the previous commenters that it’s okay to feel some fear as long as it doesn’t hold you back. Conquering your fears will help you become stronger and more confident. Traveling is one of the best activities that can help you feel more energized and healthy!

This was the title of one of my favorite self-help books- maybe one of yours too. I’ve come to accept that I’m scared quite often and that it’s OK to feel that was as long as it doesn’t hold me back. – Mary

That’s a great way to look at life. I read this book while I was in India and it made complete sense. I didn’t even realize that I was afraid of certain things and it makes complete sense to not fight it or be mad at it, but to just except it and live with that fear as long as it doesn’t hold you back.

Beyond the fear of the unknown is also the fear of “safety” in other countries. Most people don’t realize that the propaganda machine of the Western world WANTS you to be scared of traveling because they don’t wan you spending your dollars and euros in competing countries. Most of the developed/developing world is actually SAFER THAN the United States or the United Kingdom…most people just don’t know that because the news has continually bombarded them with information about how they’ll be kidnapped/raped/ransomed/robbed/etc. in other countries.

You know from personal experience that it’s absolutely not the case 🙂

Also, great overview on “the fear of traveling alone”. Can’t wait to follow along the series!
