Whether for business or pleasure, staying connected during your travels is important for many, especially in the age of social media.
When Siya and I travel, it’s essential that we are able to get online and make phone calls whenever we need to. Both our business and social life rely on it. In the above video, we share the ways we stay connected, no matter where in the world we may be. These ways include international phone plans, portable WiFi devices and local SIM cards.
When it comes to international phone plans, we recommend contacting your provider to find out which plans are available to you. Siya and I both use Telus Mobility Easy Roam when we travel. This costs us each $10 per day when we travel internationally and $7 for travel within the United States. With Easy Roam, we are able to use our phone exactly as we would back home.
We also travel with our Skyroam portable WiFi device. The device itself costs a one time fee of $99.99 and international plans are as little at $8 per day for unlimited data. We’ve tried many portable WiFi devices and this is by far our favourite.
Another way we stay connected when travelling is by purchasing a local SIM card in the country we are in. Then we just pop the SIM card into our cell phones and purchase a plan depending on the amount of time we are spending in that specific country.
With 13+ years of perpetual travel under our belt, we’ve learned that the way you choose to stay to connected depends on several personal factors. First, you need to ask yourself the following questions:
Where in the world are you going?
Will you be travelling alone, with a partner or group?
How long will you be going for?
Does your trip include multiple countries?
Once you’ve asked yourself these questions and watched our video, you’ll have a clearer idea as to which option is best for you.
Is it important for you to stay connected during your travels?
Which of these options do you find would work the best for you?

Apparently, I’ve been thinking on how to stay connected while on camping with my wife. My phone takes most of my time as SEO analyst and she has issue with me not been able find time for her.
I dare not connect on travel with her. Thanks for sharing anyway.

I’m glad this post eased your travel worries. What is it that scares you? I’m glad this helped you. All options are great and it’s important to have that connection to your family and anyone, especially if you are travelling alone.
There is no internet even if I travel around the world, even if I get lost
I don’t understand? What do you mean there’s no internet around the world?
I am definitely going to purchase a local SIM card on my next trip to Europe. I am surprised how many cool people don’t use WhatsApp. It gets frustrating
