What is the Sony Club?

Reading Time: 4 minutes

A couple of months ago, I was selected as one of the eleven bloggers that would become part of the first ever Sony Club. When Sony contacted me with the news, I was ecstatic. Why? Well, I have been using Sony products for as long as I can remember and have always been a fan. Also, this is SONY WE ARE TALKING ABOUT!!! Who wouldn’t want to partner with such a large company? It’s basically a dream come true.

So, what does this mean exactly and how do you all benefit? Basically, Sony launched a brand new blogger program this year and I was very fortunate to have been asked to join. It means I will be testing out new products throughout the year and sharing my thoughts and tips with you. This gear is going to improve the quality of my videos, photos and life (new headphones always help me get my fitness on)! I will also be doing a giveaway in the near future so you lovely people can test out some Sony gear for yourself.

As a Sony Club member, myself and the ten other bloggers were flown to San Diego to visit the Sony Electronics Headquarters, meet the Chief Operating Officer Phil Molyneux and partake in some exciting festivities that involved horse races, party buses and sailboats. Did I mention that I got to stay in the fabulous W San Diego? I’ve never stayed in a W Hotel before and boy was I impressed. As soon as I walked into the hotel lobby, I felt like I was in a funky little dance club.

My hotel room felt very homey. It could have been the fact that the colours were warm and inviting and decoration was modern and fun. It definitely had a boutique feel to it. The staff were welcoming and helpful giving directions around the city. The other hotel facilities on the other hand were a bit confusing. The pool was more like a large puddle and the “rooftop” restaurant was on the second floor? Although I always look forward to a morning swim, the extremely comfortable bed was responsible for me sleeping in anyway. So, it all worked out, and I would stay there again.

Upon checking in at the W San Diego, I received a knock on the door within minutes of arriving in my room. I opened the door to a man holding a Sony bag filled with a bunch of goodies. I took the bag and emptied it on my bed to find some delicious treats, water, an itinerary, a personalized Sony badge and a camera lens coffee mug. How sweet of Sony!

Soon after, I received another knock on my door. I opened the door to a smiling face also known as Ryan Gargiulo of Pause the Moment! I’ve been following Ryan’s adventures for quite some time now and have heard only wonderful things about him from other bloggers and industry professionals. We have been talking nearly every day for the past few months, but I had yet to meet him in person. You can say I was pretty excited, and we clicked immediately.

Ryan and I meet at last!

Ryan and I meet at last!

Since it would be a few hours before we had to meet for dinner with the rest of the Sony Club, Ryan and I decided to explore downtown San Diego in the meantime. Not only was this my first time in San Diego, but also in California. Ryan had been to the city a few times, so he knew his way around fairly well. We strolled up and down the street, sat a bit near the harbour and chit-chatted about blogging, travel and life.

I find that the people you meet when travelling are different than those you meet anywhere else. You have this love and passion for life that you both share that makes your bond immediately strong. That’s what happened with Ryan and I. Oh, travel…

When it came time to meet up with the other Sony Club members and Sony Team, I was quite excited. It’s always fun meeting other people who do what you do for a living. The more I got to know each blogger, the more excited I got. Each and every one of them was so personable, friendly, passionate, talented, down-to-earth and just all-around wonderful. I knew right away that Sony had done well picking the eleven people that would represent their brand. What I also really enjoyed was the fact that we aren’t all travel bloggers. All of us had our own niche, which made everyone even more interesting to get to know. We did all have one thing in common though, we were thrilled to be chosen as member of the Sony Club and we couldn’t wait to get our hands on some new Sony gadgets.

The rest of the evening was spent feasting on delicious food on the “rooftop” restaurant at the hotel and getting excited of the days ahead. But, you’ll just have to wait until my next post to find out what happened next.
